Our primary goal for your children’s dental development is to achieve and maintain optimum oral health through advances in techniques, technologies and by maintaining their scheduled dental exams.
Post Extraction & Surgical Instructions-PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Your child is biting on folded guaze to control bleeding. This gauze should be left in place for 30 minutes to allow for blood clot formation. After the gauze is removed, slight oozing from the site is normal. If moderate bleeding is presents, place a new folded gauze and have your child bite firmly on it for an additonal 30 minutes. If heavy or uncontrolable bleeding occurs, call our office at 281-778-0013.
Your child received local anesthesia to prevent pain and discomfort during their visit. The numbness from the anesthesia will last 2-3 hours. During this time make sure that your child does not bite, chew, suck, pinch, or pull on their lips as these actions can cause significant trauma.
Please restrict your child's diet to liquids for 3 hours after their appointment, then a soft diet for the next 24 hours. No carbonated drinks or drinking through a straw should be allowed for the next 48 hours.
Rinsing of the mouth or spitting should be avoided for 24 hours to assure clot stabilization. After 24 hours, rince gently with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon to 1 cup water ) to aid with removal of food debris from extraction/surgical site.
For minor surgical procedures post-operative discomfort should be managed with Children's Tylenol. Please consult the directions on the bottle for proper dosing. If you received a prescription for pain management and have any questions or concerns about the medication, please call our office.
The night of your child's visit, do not perform brushing or flossing around the extraction/surgical site. Begin normal brushing and flossing 24 hours after your child's visit. If sutures were placed, they should be gently brushed clean also.
